DALLAS –– Nov. 9, 2005 –– Blogging – Web logs that are used by individuals and companies to share perspectives on virtually any topic at any time, is a well-known communications tool but isn’t yet mainstream, according to Dallas/IABC’s most recent Quick Poll of professional communicators.
The survey, which is posted monthly on the Dallas/IABC Web site, asked communicators, “What is your blogging experience?” Survey results show:
- Almost 60 percent of respondents say blogging is not something they do individually or as a corporate communications tool
- Almost one-third of respondents – 34 percent – say blogging is something they or their company do as part of their communications efforts
- Seventeen percent of respondents say they operate a personal blog
- Less than 3 percent of respondents say they don’t know what a blog is
The Dallas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators conducts a monthly online Quick Poll on its Web site, and invites communicators to respond to the poll.
“Blogging is a new platform for companies and individuals to communicate on key issues, trends, corporate strategies and more,” said Carrie Mamantov, Dallas/IABC’s technology director. “It’s also becoming controversial, since anybody can create a blog in minutes. There’s always a risk of negative views posted in contrast to the blog’s original purpose. While the risks have companies and communicators developing strong policies and parameters around blogging, there are several ways to leverage this new communication vehicle.” Mamantov has written an article about blogging, available on the Dallas/IABC web site.
The chapter’s monthly Quick Poll, available at www.dallasiabc.com, invites corporate communicators in the Dallas area, plus 14 other chapters throughout IABC’s Southern region to participate. These chapters are in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
The Quick Poll is online and available at www.dallasiabc.com. It’s an interactive Web site feature that provides a timely snapshot of what chapter members and other site visitors think about current issues and trends.
